Upper campground is cleaner
By user-5808933... on 2017-10-23.
We reserved online and chose the lower, older, and shadier loop - site 25. It was a bit dirty with trash :-( and within a day we had an ant invasion. The Rangers sprayed and we had to buy the Terro traps to get the last of the critters inside the RV. Man they move fast. After the spray - no problem, but we moved to the upper campground anyway (142) as the view was awesome, the breeze delightful, and the sites much cleaner and surrounded by wildflowers. Washrooms are unisex with pay showers, no soap or hand dryer - well maintained. Good walking/biking trails. A great park only 20min from downtown San Diego!

As low as $26 with senior discount if county resident. 50 amp & water. Dump near entrance.

About 20 minute drive to downtown, 40 to La Jolla. Facilities are cute and well maintained.

Edit from below.
By user-5230348... on 2017-10-23.
Just to clarify, the review below was for the upper campground. The lower campground is much dirtier and more crowded, and has extremely high curbs to get into the spots that damage the bottom of a lot of RVs. If no upper spots are available, skip this place.

3 years ago the finished the new B section I finally had the opportunity to go just before New Years absolutely one of the best kept secrets in the area. Full hookups 33.00 - 36.00 per night concrete pads pretty darn level, newer tables and fire ring on each site, hiking trails, a couple playgrounds, h2o playground, a nice building to rent for ??? overlooking the lake, there is a section of the campground with sites for horse and corrals so bring the horse(s) and the county web site to book is so much nicer and easier than reserve america.
I will go back for sure.

The park is Well located and maintained, lots of playground for the kids . Perfect in summer . We paid 44 dollar full hookup with good Sam discount and low season price. In summer is the price much higher.
All the prices are without taxes...

Snowbirding trip
By user-5094294... on 2019-08-09.
Stayed 2019-05-01 to 2019-05-02
Passing through after a short visit to San Diego before going East. As an overnight stop it was ok.
Pros: close to shops and San Diego, relatively level sites, some shade trees, hook ups and descent water, lots of hot water in showers
Cons: washrooms were neglected in in need of repairs .. in the mens .. of the 3 shower stalls , 1 was missing its shower head, 1 had no coin collection box so it wouldnt start and the last one barely worked due to leaks. No lockable doors on showers .. toilets were is disrepair and dirty.. floors were dirty bare concrete in need of cleaning and paint. Womens washrooms were the same. We were told there was WiFi but it was hit and miss on even getting a weak connection. Lots of ants everywhere so be prepared to have an RV full of them if staying more than 1 day.

Snowbirding
By user-5094294... on 2019-08-09.
Stayed 2019-05-01 to 2019-05-02
This place has the potential to be an excellent campsite except its not. Campground is showing signs of neglect everywhere. Sites need work leveling them out, work rails falling down from rot, lawns are in of cutting.
Washrooms were disgusting .. main door to both seces was kept wide open and inside there were few working doors if any and no way of securing them. Floors were dirty almost bare concrete in need of a good cleaning and fresh coat of paint. In mens showers only 1 of the 3 was barely working .. 1 shower was missing its shower head,1 shower had no coin box so it wouldnt work and the last shower had a leaking shower head which lost a lot of the water and pressure out the leaks.
Campgrounds must have been set up on top of a giant anthill as they were everywhere and got into everything.
Staff seem to take no active interest in doing any maintenance or upkeep and mostly stood around talking during the time we were there.
While they say they have WiFi it was very slow when and if you could get connected and stay connected.
As an overnight stop it was barely passable. We will not stay here again
