Great place to stay in Pensacola
By user-484001 on 2017-10-23.
We really enjoyed staying at this state park. It is located out on what feels like an island. On the way there and just pass the campground are a series of bunkers and a fort from different wars since this area was a strategic placement to protect the bay. The campsite is not the nicest as the sites are a little close to each other and do not have sewer but it did not feel too crowded. The bathrooms are decent and the dump station is relatively easy to get to. They have trails to the beach which is probably the nicest part of this campground - the beautiful and uncrowded beaches in the park.

Feels remote but right in Pensacola
By user-6453065... on 2017-10-23.
Stayed 2017-05-21 to 2017-05-24
Great campground. Feels remote but close to town. Several loops. The first one with the most trees, closest to beach access, sites closer together. The others are a bit further down the road, one is tent area, the others RV ot tent sites - more open, some trees, angled sites separated by grass in between, water & 50 amp, fire pit and picnic table. The dump station entry designed for smaller campers, a pretty sharp u-shape, but doable for large RVs by backing in. Clean nice bathhouses. Campgrounds and other parts of the park were clean and well-maintained.
Camp store was closed - disappointed - must buy ice & firewood elsewhere (convenience store on road into the park, next to Peg Leg Pete's great popular restaurant - go early!).
Nice campground hosts - 1st time we've ever seen an off-duty sign, but there are several camp hosts.
The beach is gorgeous and so well preserved. Be prepared for a long walk-way out (take water!) from the campground (especially the 2nd larger area). No facilities at the beach.
There are other easier beach access areas with picnic and restroom areas.
The fort areas are spectacular! Such history and preservation. Definitely worth experiencing all the interpretive areas.
Our 2nd stay and we hope to return.

Stranded

Pros: Great campground with plenty space. The beaches are outstanding and easy to access from the campground! Easy bike riding along the streets and to the fort area.
Cons: No sewer hookups and weekend crowds make it a bit difficult. The real problem is that a storm can easily impact the access road and you could be stranded for days at the campground. This was the situation October 25 when a gulf storm surprised the park rangers forcing the access road to close for 3-days. Campers were not notified of the road conditions until it was too late to leave. Finally got out October 28 at 4:30 p.m. We will consider other campgrounds before coming here again.

Best National Park Campground
By user-5212660... on 2017-10-23.
Great sites, beaches, fishing pier, free Blue Angels shows, free fishing while on pier. 10-15 minutes from everything you will ever need, yet still feels secluded.

Great Campground

So much to do in the area and what a beautiful park. Two brand new bathrooms in the back loop by the camp store. The beaches are really incredible!

Nice site, great spot

This is a very nice site with nice sized sites. You have to pay $15 to enter the state park on top of the price for the site but this gives you a weeks pass in and out. The drive out to the camp is long and slow but really lovely.
The beach is across the street and the fort just up the street and it very quite, there is a small store so you can get your basics.
The staff are friendly well worth a visit.

We fell in love with Fort Pickens. The fort is fun to explore, the campsites are well kept and the beaches are incredible. You won't be sorry.

Best park around
By user-5780195... on 2017-10-23.
Have been a couple of times. The park service does a great job and anyone who stays here should consider it a privilege. If you're looking for luxury amenities and cable TV, there are are plenty of places; however If you're looking for unspoiled beauty and just how amazing the coast can be, fort Pickens will not disappoint. As for the previous poster, I was on the island in October when that storm came through. Came outta nowhere. I can say this, what a fun place to get stranded and enjoy a few extra days.

Good park
By user-5856728... on 2017-10-23.
We have stayed here numerous times. Loop A bath houses have been upgraded . Short walk to the Gulf. If you like the beach at a very competitive nightly rate this is the place . Sewer hookups would make this site a 5 star IMO.

Unbelievable
By user-5517425... on 2017-10-23.
You won't want to leave. This is the best campground we have ever been to. The beach is gorgeous, miles and miles, with only the overnight guests to share it with. Add the history surrounding you, the long hiking and bike trails, the fort etc. One could stay forever happy here if it weren't for the fog that can be like pea soup

Beautiful but some downsides
By user-4529799... on 2017-10-23.
The park itself is stunning, but it is about a 10 mile drive at about 35mph in and out of the campground so it can be pretty daunting coming in and out of town; so if your staying for business it's not that ideal.
The sites are in walking distance to the beach which is great, it is quiet beautiful. You can hear the waves crashing against the shore if the storm is just right. Due to migratory issues with sea turtles there is very little light at night and can be very very dark so you must be careful if walking to the bathroom at night.
There is very little privacy when talking about the sites individually, but all in all they are nice.
The car fee's were NOT including with the camp registration fees, which I felt was kind of silly since your paying over $20 a day to be there. But I will definitely stay there again.

Nice
By user-5844950... on 2017-10-23.
Except the water comes out cloudy (even with the inline filter). Must be salt water that comes out of the tap. Second filtering through the filtered pitcher made it clear enough to make coffee with.

Great area--great people
By user-5806384... on 2018-03-14.
I picked my spot solely on length.
Park was full --trees blocked my site so I couldn't back in. The found me another site to try--still couldn't get in--they found me another site but was blocked by a car in another site.
Ranger appeared and had them bkve the car--then I could get into my site.
I didn't move till my departure date.
Nicest bath house anywhere--clean.
There is so much to do.
Blue Angel's fly right over this area while practicing. Book in advance--way in advance.

Disappointed
By user-5823320... on 2018-03-14.
The park is great, the campground not so much. It is ok, but I probably won't be back. I camp in state parks on a regular basis and this is by far my least liked to date. The sites are small (short) and cramped. We were in loop E and could hear our neighbors conversations plainly. Not enough room to park vehicle at site. Showers are not cleaned daily,on a good note there was plenty of hot water. Campfire ring/grill was in an odd spot on our site. Low hanging trees on some sites also.

Great Campground Near a Great Beach
By user-6149644... on 2019-08-09.
Stayed 2018-10-30 to 2018-10-09
Very nice campground near activities we like. A short walk to one of the best white sand beaches in the US. We were there during the Homecoming air show for the Blue Angles. You can see it from the campground. Only drawback we didn't catch any fish.

Very nice campground

This is a very nice campground. If you have a senior pass, the price is really low. Highly recommended.

Beautiful park. Lots of trails and history to explore. Sites are pretty leveled. But I suspect that in the summer months some of the sites might be pretty hot, given that a lot of the sites don t have any shade.

Traumhafte Stelle

Sehr empfehlenswert. Absolute 5 Sterne.

Stayed here 2 nights on the way back home. Wish we could have had 2 more. Despite the fact of not having sewer hook ups we will be back. The beach is a little walk, but quiet and very clean. The water is clear and the sand sugar white. The park is crowded bit quiet and everyone was friendly. Good showers in the bath house. It would be 5 stars with full hook ups.
