We stayed here for two weeks in Late May early June 2017. Park was easy to find. Our site, 73, was OK, however it was tight getting into with a 30 ft. Rig. Almost clipped a tree limb, so watch out for that. Most other sites were not so close to to the killer trees. We initially were interested in a river site but changed our mind when we saw the price. Glad we did, when we arrived I saw how close sites were to each other. The staff was quite nice and accommodating. The showers were dated but clean. Although my bride did not use them, we learned that the women's shower was not heated, yes, the men's was. The office closed at 1700 so if you needed any supplies after that it was a trip to town (they extended there hours a little after the holiday) . The store was well stocked with gift ideas but was lacking considerably on food item. They did not have a propane filling station, had to go to another campground to refill. Just an minor inconvenience. The setting was quite nice and would certainly come back. As a side note: Exercise caution when parking at a meter in Durango. If any part of your vehicle extends over the poorly painted and hard to see parking strips/markings, you will likely get a parking ticket regardless how much time is remaking on the meter. If you take the train to Silverton, Get on at Rockwood, its a few miles North of the campground. The price is the same but you will avoid the parking hassles in town. It will shorten the ride an hour or so. The vistas really begin a Rockwood North. It's expensive but worth it.
We were here for 7 weeks and enjoyed our stay. Friendly work campers were helpful and fun. Some sites are really tight. Sites are gravel and need some leveling. Convent location-- short drive to Durango. Close to Purgatory ski area with great summer programs!! Dated restrooms but they were kept clean. Lots of wildlife in the area.
Spots are pretty tight. Park has a large amount of cabins. We rented a riverside spot which we wish would have been nearer to the water for the price. Had we known we would have reserved one further in and since the park is tight the difference would have been negligible. Our wifi worked fine and the bathrooms were usable and fairly clean. They also have a small store on property and are pet friendly.
