Poor to say the least
By user-4712865... on 2017-10-23.
The campsites under the trees as most are. Were dirt and a mix of old leaves. We raked and cleaned our site. The workers came and removed some of the crud but left the rest for me. Uneven roads and tree limbs overhead made parking for many people a a pain.
I don't have a dog. Normally don't mind if others do either. But when you have kennels made out of wire sections covering half of the site next to you with blankets covering them so the dogs don't bark constantly. Wi fi only if you sat in the center hall. Slow as dial up if as usual there was more than a couple three on it. Bathrooms are old but we're clean. Cold and windy if you choose a water view site in winter as they face the bay to the North West. We left way before our intended departure. Staff was friendly . It is what it is

Eden with Mosquitoes

Lets go with the positives, close to the beach, protected by trees, walking distance to fishing and the Estuary. Large park area, most have some type of tree to cast some shade sometime during the day. If you enjoy walking or riding your bicycle then you won't get too bored in a week. Golf is near on the Island as well. Negatives? I'm sure it is totally dependent on your days on the campground. We had lots of children on bicycles but they dwindled and disappeared by dark (maybe because of mosquitoes) and we were seldom just sitting around outside. No barking dogs but plenty of friendly people, including the employees. Bathrooms/Showers could use a little updating but this is camping. We do plan to go back as it will always be a special place for us. Just remember, it is camping, it is a place for good memories to be made... only as you can make them.

Why Negativity?
By user-5785042... on 2017-10-23.
We love this campground! There's no big stores around, speed limits are 35 everywhere, and you can ride your bike anywhere on the island. Super laid back. No pool, so that sucks, but other than that it's great. And if you just have to get your insanity fix, just hop the ferry and Gulf Shores will get your shopping/chain restaurant fix done.

Disappointed
By user-5857385... on 2017-10-23.
Did not meet our expectations. Had low limbs which scraped the camper. Nothing paved. Have walk and bike paths. Sites are not well marked and map was difficult to follow. Great place to fish on nearby dock

Great place to get away from the crowds
By user-6093696... on 2017-10-23.
We just spent 4 days at this campground and loved it. They spaces weren't too close together, they have spaces that are shaded or not shaded. They had a playground my kids liked. The bath house had 4 showers and we're clean with plenty of hot water. If it has a down side it is the lack of cable TV. We could get about 15 stations via our antenna though. We'll be back.

First time at the campground, loved it. We're half way through a 10 day stay. We came to the island for the Spring bird migration and this is the perfect place for us. There are trails from the campground right into the Audubon Bird Sanctuary and to the beach. The birding has been fantastic.
There aren't a lot of amenities on the island, so be prepared. If you need a pool, there's one at the Golf Course/Pirates Bar & Grill. Plenty of things to do on the island

Dauphin Island campground was a real treasure ! I am camping from my van with my dog and they accommodated me in the tenting area. The beach was beautiful, the trails through the bird sanctuary were marvelous, really wonderful for walking the dog. Miss Donna & Miss Judy were so sweet as were all the staff that I met. A very
family oriented place. Dauphin Island, you sleepy little bit of Heaven ! You stole my ❤

Super chill beach camping
By user-5304529... on 2018-05-17.
We love coming here with our dogs! Easy to get to & lovely beach plus the birder trails. Next time we’d rent bikes but it’s great just to relax here. Hookups were fine & it’s probably better to arrive in the daylight.

Great find, stayed three nights on our spring tour along the gulf coast. Located on the east end of Dauphin Island next to great beach and Fort Gaines.

Very Nice Campground

This campground is a little hidden gem. It's located within walking distance of historic Ft. Gaines and next to walking trails that wind through a lush maritime forest & nature preserve. From the campground, one can easily walk to the beach. The campground is wooded, but provides little privacy between sites. The bathrooms at this campground must be one of the cleanest bathrooms of any campground we've stayed at. We look forward to visiting there again next year.
