We stayed for a weekend and had a wonderful time. The park is clean and cared for. Great for kayaks (we were able to go back in a marsh) and right on the paved Virginia rail trail. Roads in the park are compressed gravel and pavement. Spots are dirt and gravel/grass. I took off one star because making a reservation doesn't guarantee your specific spot if you arrive after the office closes; it is first come/first serve then even though don't tell you when you book. I suggested to the clerk that they use " reserved " cones and he seemed genuinely intrigued by the idea. Maybe they will have cones when we come again. We WILL be back.
Beautiful setting and so close to Williamsburg. Easy, level sites. Quiet setting. Definitely worth the visit. Would come back.
We stayed here several nights in the spring. Sites are a decent size and many are along the river (the banks are high so access to the river is only at certain points). The setting is beautiful. The park feels somewhat remote but is still convenient to Williamsburg. It is right on the Virginia Capital bike trail - we really enjoyed the bike access.
